The Antique Brick – As old as time!

Humans have been using bricks since 7000 BC, so they are one of the oldest building materials ever. These bricks were discovered around the city of Jerico in southern Turkey.

These bricks were made only in warm climates where mud was shaped and left in the sun to harden. The biggest breakthrough was when the invention of the fired-brick in or around the year 3500 BC. From now on, bricks could be made without the heat of sun and soon became popular in colder countries.

Found in the remains of buildings in England, it proves that brick-making was advanced in the time of Henry VIII.

After the Great Fire of London in 1666, the city was rebuilt with antique brick as they are fire retardant.
